School Board Minutes 10/16/2014

                                                                                October 16, 2014

                        A meeting of the Berlin Board of Education was held in the Berlin High School library beginning at 6:00 p.m. Present for the meeting were Corinne Cascadden, Nicole Plourde, Lynn Moore, Donald Labrecque, Tim Forestall, Martha Miller, Roland Pinette, Cheryl Pinette, Dan Record, Amy Huter, Julie King, Gary Bisson, Debora Payeur, Courtney High, Kelly Judson-Bacon, Jill Poulin, Adrienne Backer, Meg Valliere, Joele Losier, Lisa Devost, Jessica Henderson, Tammy Fauteux, Ann Elise Record, Cheryl McCormick, and a member of the press.  

MINUTES         On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the October 2, 2014 meeting, public and nonpublic sessions. The motion passed unanimously.

WARRANTS                On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the warrants dated, October 13, and October 20, 2014 for the amounts of $11,983.22 and $326,710.87. On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

FINANCIAL REPORT        The Board reviewed and approved the financial report. The Superintendent invited the Board to visit the completed renovations at Brown School. She also reviewed the FY 16 Budget Schedule.

COMMENTS                None

FY 16 TUITION           On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the FY16 Tuition rates as follows:.
                                        Elementary:     $13,993
                                        Middle School:  $12,892
                                        High School:    $14,619

                        On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

POLICY REVISIONS        On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to approve the revision of policy KFA – Public Conduct on School Property/Assaults. The motion passed unanimously.

MANUALS         The Superintendent gave the Board changes made to the Student/Parent Manuals for the 2014-15 school year. Each school administrator was present to answer any questions or concerns the Board may have had.
                        On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the Student/Parent manuals as presented. The motion passed unanimously.

NH EDUC SUMMIT  Twenty staff members attended the NH Department of Education Summer Summit at Keene State College this past summer. The attendees reviewed what was presented to them and how it will be used in their classrooms. Student engagement was the major focus of the conference.

SUPER’S REPORT        The Superintendent informed the Board of the following:
  • NECAP Science Results
  • NHIAA Sportsmanship Award
  • BHS Principal Search –  Board will meet on November 6, 2014 from 3:30-5:30 with Rick Alpers and Ty Gagne from Primex
                
COMMENTS                None

MEMBER BUSINESS Nicole Plourde, Donald Labrecque, and Lynn Moore thanked the staff for attending the Educators Summit in Keene and for sharing the information with the Board. They were very impressed with how the staff is implementing what they learned.

                        Nicole Plourde congratulated the athletes at Berlin High School for receiving the NHIAA Sportsmanship Award.

                        Donald Labrecque reminded the administration at Berlin High School of his request for guidelines to implement Individual Sports.

NON PUBLIC              On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to go into nonpublic session at 7:00 p.m. in accordance with RSA 91-A3II, (a), (b) & (c). On a roll call vote, all members voted in the affirmative.

                        On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to come out of nonpublic session at 7:15 p.m. The motion passed unanimously. No additional votes were taken in nonpublic session

STAFFING                On a motion by Lynn Moore, seconded by Donald Labrecque, the Board voted to approve the following staffing changes:

ADJOURN         On a motion by Donald Labrecque, seconded by Lynn Moore, the Board voted to adjourn it’s meeting at 7:20 p.m. The motion passed unanimously.
